The Annunciation - 1000 Piece Puzzle

Fra Angelico's first effort to integrate the Old and New Testaments in a single frame was The Annunciation. Mary bows before Gabriel in the foreground, speaking the words that will change human history: "I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Hands crossed over her chest, Mary submits to divine will.

The sun explosion on the upper left emits a golden light beam. The shimmering rays show God's hand, which is emitted as a little dove toward the Virgin. The Messiah appears in relief in the roundel above the column separating Gabriel and Mary, watching the events unfold.
