Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Old and New Testaments (RSV2CE) in Hardback

The whole of Scripture, Old Testament and New, is being published in a single volume, featuring the beautiful Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition (RSV2CE) translation along with introductions, outlines, and explanatory notes for each biblical book, extensive cross references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and an array of visual and educational aids to bring the message of Scripture into clear focus for Catholic readers.

More than any other study edition of the Bible on the market, the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible is “like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old” (Mt 13:52). It draws insights from the best of modern scholarship as well as the best of the Catholic tradition of interpretation through the ages.

It explains the historical, cultural, literary, and archaeological background of Scripture, while at the same time looking to the Fathers, Doctors, and Councils of the Church for insight into its theological and spiritual teachings. The result is a veritable library of Bible study resources, all under one cover, designed to help readers understand the written Word of God and apply its lessons to their lives today. It is simply the most ambitious undertaking of its kind in our generation.

Full Ignatius Catholic Study Bible - Hardcover
(Canada) | February 14th, 2025
I had the prior Ignatius Catholic Study Bible for the New Testament only, and although there were times it was helpful, there were other times I confess that I was a little underwhelmed. Most thankfully, the same cannot be said of this new and full edition of the Bible. You will go in meaning to only look up one thing, and it will have you flipping back and forth all over the place through both Testaments. That's what you want in a study Bible - one that will take you through the whole thing bringing it all to light and showing how it's all connected. I even compared my prior New Testament only edition against this full one and have noticed, though largely the same, they did indeed add more content to the new and full edition of their New Testament. Would highly recommend. I chose the hardcover edition because I was afraid the leather edition might be a little too floppy and unwieldy with one handed use/without a table. I've seen and handled it since, and it's not too bad. This hardcover edition, even if you can use it without a table, does (I think) require two handed use. Either edition is going to be larger than you'd expect. They are beefy little beasts - albeit most blessed ones.
