Make Room

While the Advent season is full with excitement and anticipation, Lent may be more challenging for youngsters. How can we help youngsters approach this season in a meaningful and non-frightening manner?

Make Room depicts Lent as a particular time for making room for God. Other books provide good ideas for going through the Lenten season with children, but Make Room relates its tasks to the narrative of Jesus in an unusual way. Baking bread, inviting a neighbour over for supper, decluttering your room, and watching less TV become acts of justice and compassion, part of a life of following and emulating Christ, and a means to create place for God in our lives and the world around us.

Other books for young children relate the Passion story; this unique book blends themes of hospitality and self-giving that reflect Jesus' ministry, Jesus' whole existence. Make Room enables children to inquire about the tale, to confront Lent with all of their senses, and to participate in Lent activities as part of a discipleship life.
