The Leaven of the Saints

The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. —Matthew 13:33

How may we be a member of the kingdom of heaven here and now, spreading it to others like leaven which causes dough to grow and expand?

Consider the lives of the saints. The Church has acknowledged hundreds of men and women over the last two millennia who have loved and emulated Christ so completely that they revolutionized the world around them—as they were transformed themselves.

Saints have come from every background, culture, and time period. They have been wealthy and impoverished, healthy and ill, single and married, clergy and laity. The Leaven of the Saints categorizes them according to the kind of Christian testimony they have given the world—as martyrs, Church Fathers and Doctors, priests and religious, popes and bishops, national heroes, religious order founders, married people, and others.

The breadth of this work exposes a fundamental truth: that each saint is a unique person with a unique mission to develop in knowledge and love of Christ, as well as to make him more known and loved in the world.
