Mother Bolton of the Cenacle of St. Regis in New York started working on instruction for novices joining the convent around the year 1912. As she improved them, she started using them to instruct youngsters as well as religious education teachers.
The series The Spiritual Way, aimed at students in grades three through seven, is the result of their efforts. This series tries to teach the child to think critically about each topic, rather than merely remember knowledge, by covering twenty key beliefs of the Church, spanning from the Creation and Fall through the Church and her Sacraments. As a result of thinking about and learning to explain doctrine in their own words, young people will come to understand, embrace, and apply it in their daily lives.
Book One establishes a solid basis for spiritual truth by portraying God as Creator, Father, and Almighty; He is the One Whose Light Can Solve All People's Problems.
