St. John Vianney's (1784-1859) life was characterized by unbounded humility and obedience to God. When this modest French priest was appointed to the parish of Ars — a community of just 250 people — no one could have predicted that it would lead to his worldwide fame (even without contemporary communications!). You'll discover how Vianney's hard effort in his parish swiftly blossomed into a major spiritual change of the community and its environs.

Henri Ghéon, acclaimed playwright, gives an example of tremendous holiness that all readers may admire. Vianney “cured souls and bodies,” he writes. “He read hearts like a book. And the Blessed Virgin visited him, and the foul fiend dragged him by the heels but could not prevent him from being a saint.”

he Curé is not just the patron saint of parish priests, but also a strong intercessor for people who are struggling with their studies or who are experiencing inner turmoil or tiredness. By 1827, he was getting visits from all around France and beyond, and he might spend up to sixteen hours every day in the confessional. Despite his success at Ars, Vianney yearned for a more contemplative existence free of his public responsibilities. He attempted to pursue this on multiple times but failed each time, constantly returning to Ars.

Ghéon recalls in graphic detail how the devil constantly tormented and assaulted the Curé. You'll be amazed as you learn about:

  • Vianney’s daring witness to the Faith and near-death escapes as a young man in France
  • Nine ways the Curé drew his flock back to church (See if you can guess!)
  • How he dispersed sinful revelries and countered debauchery (You will be shocked!)
  • Ways to tackle temptations and the snares of the enemy in your spiritual life
  • Four miracles of provision when the children at his orphanage were without food
  • Spiritual wonders worked through the Curé in his role as confessor
In his homilies, Vianney did not mince words, but instead reminded the faithful of the need to repent. This book contains direct quotations from some of his most passionate sermons. When he died, the bishop presided over the Curé's burial, which was attended by nearly 300 priests and 6,000 people.
