This book will give you the directions and details you need to carry out the numerous rituals found in the Catholic Church's liturgical manuals. This guidebook seeks to bring back the grammar and syntax to the body language required for Mass, sacraments, and sacramentals. The scope is limited to rites that are most likely to be celebrated on a regular basis by parish clergy. It provides a detailed account of liturgical events often seen in parishes, assisting priests and all people who exercise liturgical ministries.

Msgr Caron's method is based on traditional Roman Rite practise as it relates to the postures and gestures of the various ceremonies. It takes into account the immemorial customs that have grown up around the Roman Catholic Church's public worship.

The General Instruction on the Roman Missal establishes the framework for Mass celebration. Along with the rubrics, the General Instruction specifies what the priest celebrant, other clergy, and faithful must accomplish. However, unlike earlier editions, the Missal of Paul VI contains very little explanation on how to carry out a certain deed. Rather, it assumes that the centuries-old tradition of the Roman Rite impacts the modern celebration of Mass.

This interpretive concept was only made evident in the third edition of the missal in 2002; it serves to define correct Mass body language, just as spoken and sung texts have their own grammar and syntax. As such, Ceremonial for Priests is the heir to the different commentaries on the rubrics found before to the Second Vatican Council in multiple languages. You will find the following information on these pages:

  •     A consistent vision of what a renewed ars celebrandi (art of celebration) might look like today (You may be surprised!)
  •     Parallel instances of similar gestures from the tradition that inform the descriptions of how a given gesture might be carried out now
  •     How to restore unity through the proper celebration of liturgy
  •     How to interpret the traditional practice of the Roman Rite and why the details matter
  •     Why the liturgical action is taking place (Can you guess?)
  •     Helpful diagrams and ways to enhance the spiritual good of worshippers
Ceremonial for Priests serves as a beginning point for everyone who seek to take seriously the obligation to offer God the adoration that He deserves in the beauty of holiness.
