BISHOP HOUNDER'S SUPPORT OF THE SSPX CANNOT BE IGNORED NOR DENIED
“I want to give a sign in support of Tradition and the Society of Saint Pius X, not with words, but personally with my actions.” - Bishop Vitus Huonder
As Catholic Tradition continues to come under attack from officials within the Church, those churchmen who support it are heavily scrutinized and even ostracized. Bishop Vitus Huonder, the former bishop of Chur, Switzerland, was not deterred by these attitudes when he requested to live out his remaining years in quiet service to the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX).
During this period, he spoke out in defense of the Society and Tradition before choosing Econe–resting place of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre–as his final resting place as well. After departing his earthly life on the Feast of the Annunciation, he was interred next to the Archbishop, thus leaving a sign for the faithful that would carry on long after his death. Indeed, his greatest wish was that an appropriate place might again be granted to Tradition in the Catholic Church.
This book provides a compact, chronological overview of Bishop Huonder’s ministry for Tradition, including a fully illustrated interview regarding his daily life of prayer and working with the SSPX’s Institut Sancta Maria, in Wangs, Switzerland. Moreover, he enumerates the reasons why he chose to support the cause of Catholic Tradition and ardently wished fellow Catholics to do the same.
