An extensive body of material on spiritual direction, intended to supplement the often brief and cryptic text of the Spiritual Exercises, has survived from the time of St. Ignatius. This includes Ignatius’s own supplementary remarks as well as handbooks written by his associates—including his secretary, Juan–Alfonso de Polanco—and other prominent 16th–century Jesuits.
On Giving the Spiritual Exercises provides translations of this material and includes the official Jesuit Directory to the Spiritual Exercises, published in 1599.
Paperback, 363 pages.
