“If you expect things to happen they will,” says eight-year-old Tressy Tuttle. This theory prepares her for the adventure that unfolds every Saturday when the six Tuttle cousins gather. One Saturday they find an elephant track and on another they discover a musical mule! Amidst these discoveries are generous adults. Mr. Bertie, the shop owner, shares tales of Siamese twins and acting acrobats at the circus; the “Beg-Pardon” Smiths’ opening of their home to the cousins includes a player piano and a tree house. Now, it is up to the Tuttles to find a way to return the kindness of their friends—complete with its own surprises!
Rebecca Caudill once again deftly portrays how the delights of everyday life flourish when shared with someone else.
