Chant for Peace CD

Following up their internationally acclaimed best-selling album, Chant: Music for the Soul, the Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz presents this unique new recording that combines their Gregorian chant with ancient Jewish Hasidic hymns sung by the famous Austrian singer Timna Brauer, who is accompanied a chamber orchestra with musicians playing cello, guitar, harpsichord and percussion.

The secret to the success of their collaboration is that they are, literally, singing from the same hymn sheet. The Jewish Hasidic music comes from Old Testament psalms, just like the Gregorian chants. The monks and Timna were motivated to join these ancient sacred music traditions to show the common bonds between Catholicism and Judaism, and to promote the cause for peace. It offers a very generous list of 24 sacred hymns, recorded in the ancient Cistercian monastery chapel.
