God’s Nativity Scene by Enrique Monasterio
“God’s Nativity Scene” is a beautiful narrative of the First Christmas told through the eyes of a Bethlehem innkeeper, a shepherd child with Down Syndrome, a housemaid, a donkey, and – the star.
Gabriel and Herod appear in it, as do the Wise Men and Simeon, the Holy Innocents, and — the universe.
Since its initial publication in Madrid in 1995, it has gone through 10 editions, has a large readership among both adults and children, and has become a Christmas classic.
Enrique Monasterio was born in 1941 in Bilbao, Spain. In 1968, he received a PhD in theology from the Lateran University in Rome, and in 1969, he was ordained to the priesthood in Madrid.
He has worked as a chaplain at universities in Valencia and Madrid, but "El Belen que puso Dios" came to him while he was teaching at Aldeafuente, a ladies' school.
Father Monasterio has previously written two books and will soon publish a third.
He contributes regularly to “Mundo Cristiano” and writes a daily blog.
