Product Description

America: Forge of Freedom spans the years from antiquity to 2008. Volume 1 begins with the early Americans and Native American life and culture and continues through the Civil War.

Volume 2 will continue where Volume 1 left off, beginning with Reconstruction and ending in the present day.

At the conclusion of each chapter, there are review questions for the learner.

This is a unique book for many reasons.  First, it recounts history through the eyes of a Catholic. This implies that the events in the book are judged based on their impact on the Church and society from the standpoint of Catholic moral and social teachings. As a result, the legalisation of abortion and the institution of slavery can only be seen as intrinsically evil. Other histories or historians may see such actions as morally neutral, but the Catholic historian cannot.

Furthermore, the book emphasises the importance of Catholics and the Catholic Church in America. This is not to imply that big events are disregarded, but it is possible that less significant events, which secular historians may believe are more important, are reported to a lesser level.

Volume 1 has 431 pages.

Full color. Copyright 2023. 8.25 x 10.5 inches each. Soft cover.
