St. Teresa of Calcutta, born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, joined the Sisters of Loreto at the age of 18. She worked at St. Mary's School for Girls in Calcutta, India, for 20 years.
On September 10, 1946, she received her "call within a call" while riding on a train. Jesus asked Mother Teresa to found the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order dedicated to serving the poorest of the poor, for which she was affectionately known as Mother Teresa.
Mother Teresa spent the majority of her life in a "spiritual darkness," feeling far from God, according to her prayer journals, which were discovered after her death. Despite this, she remained faithful, and her Sisters numbered nearly 4,000 members and were established in 610 foundations in 123 countries around the world in less than 50 years.
Get these socks to be reminded of her mantra of doing "small things with great love."
