St. Matthew the Apostle started his journey as a tax collector, which was the most despised job during Christ's day. Christ beckoned to Matthew as he was working at a collection booth, saying simply, "Follow me." Matthew therefore became a follower of Christ. Matthew penned his narrative of the Gospel after Christ's death, which became the first of four Gospels in the New Testament.

"Holy Matthew, Pray for Us," the bottom of our sock says in Hebrew. Historians think that Hebrew was the original language in which Matthew composed his Gospel in order to communicate directly to the Jews. Our design also contains Roman coins, which recall his previous job as a tax collector.
