St. Scholastica, St. Benedict's twin sister, formed a monastic community for women near her brother's monastery.  Scholastica and Benedict had a close relationship, and they were allowed to meet once a year to discuss spiritual concerns. Scholastica was very sick during their final encounter, and begged her brother to remain longer so they could continue their conversation. Benedict declined her request due to scheduling restrictions.  Scholastica prayed fervently in answer, and a storm broke out, keeping Benedict from leaving. The two siblings spent the whole night in spiritual dialogue.
