Product Description

•••••
St. Lucy was a young Christian martyr who lived in the third century in Syracuse, Sicily. Lucy, according to legend, pledged to stay chaste and devote her life to God. She turned down marriage offers and gave her fortune to the impoverished, which enraged a suitor, who reported her to the police as a Christian. Lucy was persecuted for her religion and subjected to a variety of tortures, including having her eyes gouged out. As a result, Lucy is known as the patron saint of the blind and visually challenged.

We included braille into our design to honour her patronage, with the words "St. Lucy, Pray for Us" printed at the top of the sock. Every year on December 13th, the Feast of St. Lucy, there are lively festivities and ceremonies. A young girl is selected to depict St. Lucy, clothed in a white gown with a wreath of lights on her head, leading a parade of maidens clad in white, symbolising purity and lighting. The procession throws warmth and brightness into the cold gloom.
