A Sermon for Every Sunday and Feast of Obligation
Fr. Arthur Tonne
"The only unusual feature of these sermons is that each one begins with a story or illustration. Of the Divine Preacher we read:
All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without parables he did not speak to them. Matthew, 13:34.
We do well to attempt the same." (Author’s Introduction)
This work from late 1945 is one of Fr. Arthur Tonne’s earliest publication endeavors. Within this tome he contrasts the Parables of Christ with a spiritual lesson while providing its practical application.
The list of topics addressed are numerous—62 in all—and illustrate such matters as the practice of virtue, aspects of the spiritual life, social and ecclesiastical issues, and the public witness of our Catholic religion through our words and actions.
Thus, for every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation, Fr. Tonne connects With Parables an important lesson for our daily lives as Catholics with the objective of sanctifying ourselves and thereby obtaining eternal life.
